Home Alone!

Not at all happy about being left at home on Sunday but what am I to do? I gave them all grief at work for starters that's for sure!

I had to stay at home because it wasn't deemed safe for me to try my paws at Jack's Rake. To be perfectly honest I would have made a much better job than she did. Apparently Mum, Gaz, Jonesy and Pete started their walk at New Dungeon Ghyll in Langdale. They followed the path by Stickle Gill and stopped to check out the view by Stickle Tarn. It was here that the fear set in. Its safe to say that mum does not have a head for heights so the prospect of the scramble ahead was enough to bring on tears and nausea. Not one to be beaten she agreed to walk round the tarn and take a closer look. There was no hanging around she just decided to get on with it. She was very grateful of the company she was in that day as Gaz and Pete helped her along the way and at one point when she had a little paddy and said she couldn't go any further a man called Andy came to her rescue and helped her with one of the tricky bits. Once she got into the swing of this scrambling lark she was away. There were jumps for joy on the summit.

Getting down from the summit was to be another matter altogether. The weather was terrible and visibily was poor. They managed to find their way round Harrison Stickle and onto the path back down to New Dungeon Gyhll or rather Millbeck Farm for tea and cakes.

Fingers crossed I get to go on the next walk.

Weird Day on Helvellyn

To be honest I'm fed up with the slog up Helvellyn! Becca keeps moaning about how much water she has to carry for us. Any excuse for holding me back when I'd be up there in a flash without her. Apparently we are done with walking up there for a while now and I have the joys of Kentmere and Langdale to look forward to.
Walking on April Fools Day was interesting to say the least. All started well. it was cold but pleasant until we got to the summit of Helvellyn .... I wasn't sure what the first oddity was but Becca said it was someones final resting place! Just round the corner from that we saw the best pitched tent ever. How it was still standing in the gales is anyone's guest but its purposes was to serve teas and coffees, yes that's right a 'brew hut' of sorts on the summit of Helvellyn. Not really the weather to be hanging around unfortunately. After that we walked to Nethermost Pike, High Crag and Dollywagon Pike. Finally on the descent from Dollywagon Pike she stopped moaning about the weather and took her hood down and hat off. She does look ridiculous but no one seems to understand how deeply uncool it is for us dogs to been seen with people like that. We walked round Grisedale Tarn and followed the path along Raise Beck. Another good 5 half hour walk completed.

No rest for the wicked and I certainly am that!

Not much chance for taking pictures in the freezing cold but got these two of Thirlmere on the descent.

Friday's March

Hi again

I've found the cable for mum's phone so we can put picture up of Fridays's walk. We got off to an early start. I was pleased because I was more than ready to have fun.
Parked up near Thirlmere just past Swirls carpark then we were off. Straight up to Helvellyn. I was very pleased we managed to overtake some people and their border collie. Oh how I love to show a collie how fit I am. We stopped for a quick pose for a picture at the plaque, I was very impressed although I must say I'm not sure I would stay with Mum for 3 months if anything happened.

The little black and grey pod is Mum's new best friend. Something about it being better than sliced bread and she's been looking for one for ages! It's a Dicky Bag. It is made of neoprene and is designed to clip on a rucksack or belt. In the lid there is a pouch for poo bags and in the base there is a scented disc. Once Mum had picked up my poo in a bag she popped in the Dicky Bag and away we went without her moaning on about having to carry a bag of poo.

After Helvellyn we walked to Raise, Stybarrow Dodd, Watson'e Dodd then Mum had the idea that it wan't much further to Great Dodd so we managed that as well before heading home. Just over 12 miles in total and 5 and a half hours.

Tried and Failed!!!

I'm sorry I've not been online for a while but I've been that busy helping Mum with her training for the K2B. I went for a cracking walk yesterday in the Lakes so I'll tall you about that later but just had to share this with you. We decided that we'd try and take Bruce along the stretch of the Dales Way that runs behind work. He really isn't get about as well as he should but thought we'd give it ago. This would be the first time we'd tried him with stiles over fences. He manged a wall by jumping over it but fences and kissing gates a different matter. After much huffing and puffing Mum had to life him over. Not easy cos she's not so big and Bruce weighs around 35kgs! Well I couldn't help but laugh. He can't have had to deal with so many in London!

Hmmm I can tell this is going to get boring and my poor paws will be worn out! Mum seems to think it will be a good idea to do the Keswick to Barrow walk. Apparently this is a 40 'stroll'! Of course I have been drafted in to do the training. Piece of cake I thought. Well it would be if Mum wasn't so competitive. Last Monday we have a nice walk around Silverdale and Arnside. I can't remember the route but it was walk 2511 off the walking Britain website. We had a good day, Mum sound a bit panicked when I thought I'd take a look down some rocks and onto the beach. Didn't want to upset so I carried along the footpath. Yawn!! The walk was 8 miles and we took 2hrs 20mins. This included a lunch stop, well for her it did but I only got a few scraps.

Yesterday I was dragged out around Kendal. Saw some places I recognised from when we lived there. I thought we might have been popping for a brew at her friends house but got pulled back down the path. I gave a husky what for. To be honest it deserved it, it was pulling its owner all over the place. Mum did warn her I can be grumpy and she laughed, hmm not a good idea I told her dog exactly what I thought of it. Our time improved we walked 10 miles in 2hrs 40mins. Mum has a new thing on her phone to map our route. I will start posting maps when sh'e figured out how to put them on the computer.

Fingers crossed Bruce can come with again sometime. He has to rest at the mo because he has GSD back legs problems.

Nice weather

Hi

Finally the rain has stopped, we done our fundraising and we've had a day off! We missed a walk last weekend when Uncle Phil and Jonesy went walking up Helvellyn. We told them not to bother but the youngsters wouldn't listen and they came back down sharpish due to bad weather.

Today was much better. We went up Arnside Knott, down through a rather fancy caravan park. Bruce remembers his caravan holidays so was quite excited and then headed back home. Not a bad walk for Bruce, he managed very well as we were out for a couple of hours and he keep pace all the way. We will try some low level hill walks with him next.

Hope you've had a good weekend and thank you to all the people that came to our bring and buy sale yesterday. I've had a count up, ran out of toes because we raised £631!!!!

Hi Folks

Sorry I've not been on for a while. We've had some treks out but the weather has been terrible so we've not so far with doing any exciting walks. High winds and and fog have sent us back down on a couple of occasions now. I'm very small and find it difficult keeping all four feet on the ground sometimes. Mother has told me that we do not want to have to call Mountain Rescue out just because we were silly.

I would like to fill you in on my new mate, Bruce. He is a very old German Shepherd. I flew at him the minute he got through the door and he passed that test well. After much consideration I have decided that I really like him. We aren't sure just yet if he can make it on long walks but we will build him up and see how he gets on.

Remembrance Day

I'm really a bit miffed about this but it was in a good cause so I thought I'd tell you anyway. Mum went on the Remembrance Day walk up Great Gable on Sunday. I wasn't allowed to go because I wouldn't have respected the 2 mins silence. There was an estimated 600 hundred people that made the walk. The weather was amazing for November with just a bit of wind. Lots of dogs make the journey as well. When we set off from the car all we could see was a snake of people in front us, it really was an amazing sight. Mum said it was a very moving experience being with all them people.

Well we had a bit of a wild walk yesterday. It was lovely weather when we left work but for whatever reason Mum decided to take us a mile up the road to walk in the rain. It was quite the adventure though. We saw what we think was a stoat running across the road and onto the backing on the other side. Mum decided that if was a stoat because weasels are weasily recognised and stoats are stoatally different, CRINGE!

Well we've finally done it! We've been out for a stroll today and met a yorkie pup on our way back but what we really went for was to find Charmer's Grave.

We went up Walna Scar rd over Brown Pike looking down over Blind Beck - Buck Pike - Dow Crag ( mum had a wobble again over a very easy scramble!) - then we cut down past Goat's Water.

I really have nothing good to say about this weather. We went out for a walk this morning and nearly got blown away. Good job I've had my hair cut or I'd look windswept now. Shame they cancelled the Tour of Britain stage past work, I was looking forward to chasing some cyclists up the hill.

Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven't been on for a while but we have been non stop here at the rescue. Before anyone gets worried I have been going out for walks but just not anywhere exciting. Mum has promised we will get out and about more now the summer holidays are over with.
It's been really hard keeping track of all the cats and dogs that have been coming into the rescue. We have had a bumper year for cats and are well on track for a record breaking year.
I would like to report that there has been a new addition to the office, Holly. She is a great big cuddly dog. Holly like to meet and great anyone that comes to the office.

Well we have a first. I have to admit I thought Becca was going crazy letting The Pom come for a walk with us. It's usually a pain because we just get set off when we have to go back home because he can't be bothered. I mean he has being doing really well in the field, he chases after Hayley's lurchers but still thinks he can't walk. Anyway today was different he joined me on a jaunt along the Dales Way and manged a full 40 mins. Needless to say Becca was over the moon, I mean really I can walk for hours but whatever makes her happy.

Wet Weather :-(

So I moaned when I was to hot and now I'm moaning because it's non stop rain. I know the rain has been stopping but Becca seems to wait until it is just about to rain to step out of the house. Don't get me wrong I'm quite happy to go out whatever the weather but it's taking the mick a bit now!
I went for a walk the other day with Becca's brother Phil and his mate Gaz. We went up Whinfell which is just behind the rescue centre, we didn't quite make it to the top as we hit hailstones at one point, not great in May.
The day before I got to go out for a walk with my old mate Scooby, it was good to have a catch up. He is as handsome as ever and seems to be in tip top shape.

What has Mother done?!

Well she has gone and done it now. I'm glossing over the fact she has entered for the London Marathon, the really bad bit is she has cut my hair! I'm looking forward to some nice walks now the holidays are over but there will be NO pictures taken. Still it's lots cooler in the summer. We have lots going on at work, everyone is rallying around trying to sort out our Bingo Night and then they are off to Country Fest with some of the hens.

Hello

Sorry I haven't been on for a while Becca has been holding me back a bit! She says we can't venture into The Lakes at this time of year because it will be to busy. We have been very busy in the garden, I think she is trying to get everything in order ready for our open day in the summer. Don't work to much, I have been getting out. We are very lucky to live right next to The Dales Way so I get to walk that every now and again. We have also been up over Scout Scar ( my fav) and The Helm a few times.

We would like to wish Mon and Simon a big congratulations on the birth of Isadora Sara their first baby. This means that Pauline our Treasurer is now Granny Pauline.

Scafell Pike!!

As there isn't much going on round here in the rain I thought it would be a good time to fill you all in about my hike up Scafell Pike. We set off very early one sunny Saturday to Rebecca's Auntie Sue's house, Millbeck Farm Langdale (quick plug for her B&B, very very good breakfast and Auntie Sue bakes the best cakes!) We parked at Millbeck just down from New Dungeon Ghyll and ate some bacon butties before setting off on the hike. If I'd have known what was to follow I would have stayed at home, my poor little legs. The route was Millbeck - Rossett Pike - Angle Tarn - Esk Hause - Great End - Ill Crag - Broad Crag - Scafell Pike and back for cake, happy days. We were out for 7 hours and I was that tired I didn't even chase Uncle Eric's sheep. Answers on a postcard for you think the pics are of. Molly xx

Yet another great day out here at Grayrigg. we had a nice walk up Scout Scar yesterday. I'm hoping we will get another long walk in next week, with a bit of luck it won't be as muddy as last time. there is talk about me going off to find 'Chalmer' but I'll have to keep you posted on that one as Mummy says it's a secret.

All is Quiet

It's very strange round here at the moment, everything appears to have gone quite. Not many people coming to look round. Please take a look at the Animals for Rehoming section, whoever you chose will be a very happy camper like me.
It's very nice on site at this time of year. The daffodils are just on their way out and we can here lambs all over the place, even the hens seem quite perky. Ask if there are any spare eggs if you come up to see us. I'm ok with the hens but I'm under strict instruction not to go near the lambs!

Hi Everyone
We are all smiling at work at the mo, the weather is finally picking up! Much more fun walking the doggies when it's like this.
We are hoping that our new website helps home some more cats and dogs.
My walk on Friday lasted longer than I anticipated, just over 6 hours. I bagged quite a few wainwrights though. we walked from Grasmere - Easdale - Easdale Tarn - Tarn Crag - Codale Head - Sergeant Man - High Raise - Calf Crag - Gibson Knott - Helm Crag. Phewww!

Hi I'm Back!

Hi Everyone
Some people might know me from my old blog, we have decided to start again now we have our brand new website!
For those that don't know me I'm nearly 5 years old and live with Rebecca on site at Animal Rescue. I'm possibly the fittest yorkie you'll ever meet. My profile pic is of me at the summit of Scafell Pike, I was in very good spirits considering my 7 hour walk that day!
I will keep you all informed about what goes on here at the rescue and any trouble I might get myself into.
